Description
I was given this flower by the camp cook, Aziz, when camping for five days in the Inal Steppe, near the base of Highest Mount Elbrus; in the Russian Caucasus, I was honored to be a guest of Ibragim Yaganov, Horse Master, Breeder of fine Kabardian horses. Circassian Knight, of Kabardia-Nalchik region-As Ibragim says, "Elbrus is extravagant in the landscape."- The thick-petaled, leathery and yet velvety flower is in the mysterious 'broom rape' family. They have been used as a love potion for thousands of years. This illustration is featured in my upcoming historical adventure novel, "Treasures of the Caucasus."
