Pasture Reverie
Brilliant October leaves, cadmium yellow against autumn blue heaven,
Now russet, light sienna strewn along the country road
Where I lead the mares t pasture.
Their hooves� percussion on packed dirt and gravel
Sound hollow with two separate rhythms stepping double 4/4 time.
Sweet woody oak and an earthy rose fragrance rise from the sun warmed brambled tree line.
I release the mares to freedom. With tails raised like praise flags,
They gallop in exuberance and joy, exploring their new high country pasture
And stop frequently to tear mouthfuls of grass whose green still lingers after many freezing nights.
As the mares relax into serious grazing, I recline against a gentle slope of sweet grass,
With all time and cares suspended�released to the One who handles them best,
I gaze at the snow-covered high places remembering: �He...
ARTIST BIO Anastasia Ealy has been a New Mexico artist since 1984. She was raised with the love of the Rocky Mountain west, ranching, horses, farm animals, gardening and mountains. Many summer times were spent on the Nebraska family ranch. Her mother was a Creole from New Orleans, Louisiana, of original French and Portuguese,Spanish,Sephardi-Jew, early 1700's Colonial ancestry. This Spanish heritage, and having lived and painted in Calpe, Spain during the 1970's also gives Anastasia a strong affinity to Northern New Mexico.Colonial heritage, and love for it people and landscapes.
