Description
One of my Mystic Birds of the Southwest series-Rendered after a "research and experience visit" to the Hopi mesas and Niman dances. This series was begun in the late 80's during an in depth comparative study of ancient Pueblo Indian mysticism, and plains Sundance self mutilating rites, I compared both in many symbolic and actual ways with prophecies, and sacrificial rites of ancient Biblical prophecies, Hebraic sacrificial system culminating in the Ultimate sacrificial system's fulfillment in Yeshua -Jesus of Nazareth--Who became our sacrifice for sins. Thus He fulfilled the past prophecies and is fulfilling the yet to be fulfilled prophetic texts. During my Native American celebration and exploration of that part of my DNA, My husband at the time, Dan Fogelberg, enjoyed the clowning at the Hopi Dances and he had fun painting the "Mud head Clown" on this canvas with me. He appreciated my following sentiments: "We don't need to kill animals to pray for rain-How many feathers does it take anyway? We don't need to sacrifice innocent animals anymore-Its a done deal.
The Taos tribe has many legends including "Magpie Tail Boy, and the Corn Sisters," that are enjoyable reading.
