Description
These amazing Tusheti men of the Caucasus still rake, stack, and remove hay by hand and ox cart. They are true indigenous "mountain men/women. They use swing blades also known as scythes- and wide handmade wooden rakes. They are a very hospitable fun people to visit with. Their ancestors were known as Scythians and were also masters of the bow, and were horse masters. I enjoyed being in the rare high Caucasus Mountain region of Tusheti; at the end of one of the 10 most dangerous roads in the world, as the BBC labels them. Can we spell white knuckles coming down? This is the view from my charming rustic guesthouse in Omalo Village., where I spent relaxing hours sketching and photographing, as well as riding a gorgeous Tusheti buckskin mare to a higher rare and rustic village, whirl obtaining mane hair samples from some of the world’s rarest ancient heirloom horse breed to send to equine geneticist, Dr. Gus Cothran of Texas A & M University.
