Description
Solstice 2016
Ah, the snows of winters past and future
Converge in the silent settling of white over the garden.
Heavenly water of life suspended in crystals for
A warmer time’s release.
The last of the climbing roses, once madder-pink, with sunset-apricot in their centers
Nod dry, papery heads capped with snow berets.
Their spicy-tea, intoxicating fragrance—just a memory of autumn’s crescendo of glory.
Cobalt blue delphiniums—resilient to the freezes have finally succumbed to winter slumber.
There is comfort in the anointing of copious amounts of frankincense, myrrh, sweet amber, sandalwood, Christmas fir, and patchouli-rose oils
Enveloping the senses, their cloak of perfume, warm, spice, balsam and rose-garden memory keep at bay December’s brittle cold,
And bring reminiscence of prophetic
Past, gifts of Wise Men into the present.
It is a time of earth-rest and wonder, of
Donning madcaps of wool and fleece, warm boots--
Feeding sweet hay cut from summer’s meadow-green,
To grateful horses and cattle—all actions holy in remembrance
Of our Savior, Jesus, born with the hay of a manger for His bed.
