Description
Solstice 2018
Rather Winter-Earth Quiet
On the shortest day
Filling the wood box and feeding the hungry wood stoves early
Before this encroaching longest night.
Our valley’s black bear residents finally slumber
Dreaming of sweet raspberries
Spring peepers singing, and luscious
High country days of summer
While the North Pole’s white bears lumber—
Illumined by midnight sun and shimmering sky curtains--aurora borealis.
Nestled under the sound-absorbing snow blankets,
The mountains have gone to sleep—Am I the only one still awake?
Candles are lit and festive lights
Light of the World Remembrances and singing
Twinkle blue in the powder-blue spruce—once a small potted Christmas tree—now planted in the rock garden of the waterfall—set free and grown tall
Beneath whirling watching stars, brilliant mirror-moon and meteorite showers,
While home fires’ orange sparks fly
To greet them in the brightly sequined sky---Anastasia
